"This book is the first of it's kind in Europe.
It immortalises a milestone in the history of bonsai in Europe and is a wonderful memory of two fantastic days.
Days of friendship, solidarity, admiration and joy."

This statement in the introduction to the book gives an impression of the feelings that the International Bonsai Weekend evoked.
This event was held at the Ginkgo Bonsai Centre in Lochristi, Belgium in September 1997 and was organised by Danny Use and Ingrid Vanlommel.
With the help of the many participants, helpers and visitors the Belgian Bonsai Centre was turned into a show place for bonsai's from all over Europe.

This book is a record of the Ginkgo Bonsai Award 1997.
Note: Ginkgo Bonsai Centre has since moved to Laarne.

It is a 128 page book containing more than 150 colour photographs from some of the best bonsai talent in Europe.
The contributors list reads like a "Who's Who" of European bonsai with entries from Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Czech Republic, Great Britain, France and Spain.
The text is in 6 different languages; English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Italian.

Juniperus rigida,
Danny Use, Belgium

Olea europea,
Angel Mota, Spain
This book is not a "how to .." book, or a "teach yourself bonsai book".
It is a book full of excellent, profesional photographs of high quality bonsai specimens.

If, like me, you have learned and practiced the techniques and are a continually on the lookout for sources of inspiration then I can recommend this book.
I usually get my inspiration from visiting bonsai collections or looking at trees in their natural setting, but here in the west of Holland there aren't to many windswept junipers clinging precariously to sides of the windmills!!
This book will enable me to look at other peoples work and help me to get the inspiration that I sometimes need to achieve that special look that we all try to give to our trees.
